A medical pot dispensary asked San Juan Bautista officials to rescind a ban against such operations, and the city’s officials indicated they might move in the opposite direction and tighten current regulations.
Council members asked the city manager to look at revising the medical marijuana ordinance banning dispensaries to also prohibit any outdoor cultivation and home delivery, Councilman Jim West said.
San Juan took up the hot-button issue weeks after county supervisors first approved a cultivation ban and then reversed course when it came time for an official ordinance reading.
San Juan council members held the special meeting Wednesday to consider a proposal from Purple Cross Rx—which has battled with the county and City of Hollister for years over dispensary locations—to rescind the Mission City’s own ban against dispensaries started in 2011.
During the meeting, West said, the council heard the request to rescind the dispensary ban but ended up broaching two other possible prohibitions related to medical marijuana—its outdoor growth and home delivery.
Council members are set to consider the matter again at the regular council meeting Nov. 17, West said.
