The San Juan Service Club has been celebrating Christmas for
more than 50 years by sponsoring the annual community bonfire
that’s the signal to the children of San Juan Bautista that Santa
Claus is coming to town.
The San Juan Service Club has been celebrating Christmas for more than 50 years by sponsoring the annual community bonfire that’s the signal to the children of San Juan Bautista that Santa Claus is coming to town.
Santa will arrive Friday in his usual style accompanied by the San Juan Bautista Volunteer Fire Department. Bonfire ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. in the Mission San Juan Bautista parking lot across from the Community Center, Second and San Jose streets.
The service club and local Boy Scouts prepare for the event by filling bags with an assortment of goodies such as apples, oranges and candy for children who come to see Santa Claus.
Club members along with other local organizations help maintain and repair the community center, where Santa will be waiting for children to tell him what’s on their wish list. Photos of children with Santa will be available for $5.
The service club has served residents for more than 70 years, raising money for civic projects and Scouting programs.
