Joe Paul Gonzalez, the county clerk, auditor and recorder, said he expects fewer than one-third of registered voters to take part in the June 8 primary.
He said the elections office expects a turnout of “30 percent, tops.”
“We know that so far, with the low vote-by-mail ballots returned, we think it’s going to be a low voter turnout election,” Gonzalez said.
For comparison, the elections office has looked at numbers from the past two gubernatorial primaries – which had turnouts in San Benito County of 38 percent and 46 percent, respectively – in helping to surmise an estimate.
