After finishing fourth in the primary race for sheriff Tuesday, Marshal Robert Scattini said he is leaning heavily toward another run for city council in November’s general election – which could set up a rematch of his 2006 loss to Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez.

“It’s a very good possibility,” he said during an interview following Tuesday’s result.

Scattini was the District 2 Hollister council representative from 2002 to 2006 before Sanchez beat him in the 2006 election. Sanchez beat Scattini with a little less than 62 percent of the vote in the 2006 election.

Currently, Scattini is the county’s marshal, an office that will close at the end of the year. He has held that position for the last 22 years.

Scattini said he plans to finish out the next six months in the marshal’s office but afterward he will look to still serve the county.

“I am not going to sit on my couch and watch TV,” he said. “I’m going to work for the county and I’m not going to be hanging my hat up just yet.”

Scattini also mentioned he might run for a seat as a county supervisor in 2012.

Scattini finished with 10 percent of the vote in a four-person sheriff’s ballot during Tuesday’s election. Scattini held the position for four years in the mid 1980s.

Sanchez has not said whether she will run again and could not be reached immediately for comment.
