Hollister – Although the San Benito Lady ‘Balers defeated Carlmont 2-0 at the Milpitas Spikefest earlier in the season, the visiting Scots reversed the outcome in a non-league match on Tuesday.

San Benito fell in four games to Carlmont at Mattson Gym 22-25, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25.

While Carlmont, who was a Division I Central Coast Section qualifier last year, is one of the many tough preseason games the Lady ‘Balers scheduled, Coach Dean Askanas isn’t pleased with his team’s current 4-5 overall record.

“I’m very disappointed and part of it was my fault, giving too many excuses on how hard the preseason was going to be,” Askanas said. “I said it was a hard preseason, but it’s not OK to lose.

“We’ve got our back against the wall and we need to show that we can win.”

While no statistics were reported, Askanas said his team came out flat and unemotional on Tuesday, leading to the four-game loss.

The Lady ‘Balers will look to rebound this weekend at the Westmont Invitational.

“It’s very big,” Askanas said of the tourney. “From now on, everything is big.”
