Gatherer-Ehret
Sarah Gatherer and Jay Ehret will marry in September. Sarah is the daughter of Adeen McKuin and Royce Gatherer, both of Hollister. Sarah is attending the University of Phoenix, earning a bachelor’s degree in health administration. She is working at Greenwood Chevrolet in Hollister. Jay is the son of Yvonne Ehret and sister of Stacy Andrade, both of Hollister. Jay graduated from Fresno State University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in business/marketing. He is working for the Valley Yellow Pages.
Padgett-Quist
Katharine Marie Padgett and Todd Aaron Quist will marry July 8 in Chico, Calif. Katharine is the daughter of Matt and Sue Padgett of Gilroy. Todd is the son of Dennis and Lynn Quist of Gridley, Calif. Katharine is employed by Butte County Department of Agriculture in Chico, and Todd is employed by C & J Applications in Gridley. Both are 2004 graduates of Chico State University.
Sweeney-Hoshida
Emily Sweeney and Stephen Hoshida will marry June 24. Stephen is the son of Michael and Dia Hoshida of Gilroy and is a second-year law student at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Emily is the daughter of Michael and Jill Sweeney of Laguna and Joan Skaaden of San Diego, and is employed at the Center for Elders Independence. Both Hoshida and Sweeney are graduates of Chico State University.
MARRIAGES
Rocha-Fortino
Kendra Rocha and Steve Fortino of Gilroy were married March 20 at Sorensen’s Inn in Hope Valley, Calif. The ceremony was performed under a veil of snowflakes on an altar carved in snow by Steve. They spent their honeymoon snowshoeing and seeing the Sierras. Kendra is the daughter of Fernando Rocha and Sondra Furtado of Gilroy. Steve is the son of Frank and Ruby Fortino of Gilroy and the father of Nick, Daniel and Adam Fortino of Gilroy.
ANNIVERSARY
Hudson anniversary
P.L. (Lou) and Arlene Hudson celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary April 17 with their family Loris and John Dawson, Nancy Davin, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The Hudsons have lived in San Martin since 1949.
HONORS
Thomas Burrow
Thomas Burrow, son of Ali and Rich Burrow formerly of Morgan Hill, was recently accepted to Deerfield Academy’s class of 2010. The academy is in Deerfield, Mass.
Bob Hunt
Bob Hunt has been chosen as the South County California Retired Teachers’ Assocation’s Volunteer of the Year. Bob volunteered 825 hours during the last year with the South County Council of the United Way, the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce’s “Resources for Seniors Forum” and as the co-chair of the Morgan Hill Fourth of July Parade.
Bob retired from the Morgan Hill School District in 1994, and continues teaching as a substitute for its schools and for the County Boys’ Ranches. He also taught at Castro Middle School, Homestead High School, Foothill College, Marysville High, South County ROP, Gavilan College and Hartnell College.
Monte Vista Christian School Performing Arts Choir Program
The Performing Arts Choir Program at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville recently received a total of 15 Superior and six “excellent” ratings at the Central Coast California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Festival. Congratulations to the students who received a rating of “superior” for their soloist performance. The following students will be going to the California State Festival on May 13: Candace Miser, Jennifer Houston, David Evan, Julia Nicholson, Sean Chapman, Alexander Faulk, Kimberly Silva and Joshua Blanton. The “ensemble” award went to the Master’s Voice and MV4.
Natalie Lewis and Jessica Lee received the rating of “excellent” for their soloist performances. Casey Pagan and Whitney Dawes, and Casey Pagan and Sean Chapman also received the rating of “excellent” for their duet performances.
