Lila Paige Furtado was born April 17, 2013 at El Camino Los Gatos to Lauren and Dusty Furtado of Morgan Hill. She weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
HONORS
Chera Kirby
Chera Kirby, of Morgan Hill, is among 331 young people currently serving in the nation’s first class of FEMA Corps, a new unit of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) solely devoted to disaster preparedness and response.
Kirby, 22, is providing support to disaster survivors and gaining significant training and professional experience in emergency management. Serving on teams of 10 to 12 people, FEMA Corps members travel to disaster-affected communities and support longer-term recovery operations across the country. Projects range from working directly with disaster survivors to administrative disaster management tasks to sharing disaster preparedness and mitigation information with the public.
Kirby arrived at the AmeriCorps NCCC Pacific Region campus in Sacramento in February and completed six weeks of specialized training in the area of Public Assistance. Kirby is nearing the end of her first project round, during which she traveled to Woodbury, N.Y. to gather information for case reviews, assist individuals and families in disaster recovery centers and assist with temporary housing units.
Colleen Kenyon
Colleen Kenyon, a 2011 graduate of Ann Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill and daughter of Doug and Kim Kenyon, has achieved senior standing at San Francisco State University after only two years on a full academic scholarship. She has maintained an A average while pursuing a liberal studies degree with an emphasis in elementary education. Upon graduation, Colleen plans to obtain her multiple subject teaching credential.
Ethan Ogle
Ethan Ogle, a 2008 graduate of Gilroy High School, received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from San Jose State University. He has recently been accepted to the paramedic program at Foothill College.
Brianna Cassara
Brianna Cassara of Gilroy graduated Saturday, June 15 from Santa Clara University. She received a bachelor’s of accounting and received the honor of Magna Cum Laude. She will be employed at KMPG and has the goal of achieving her CPA.
Christopher Delgado
Christopher Delgado, of Gilroy, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at Loyola Marymount University. Students named to the Dean’s list have completed 15 semester hours at LMU and earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Romina Gupta
Romina Gupta from Oakwood School was selected to attend the Northern California Youth Leadership Seminar from June 14-16 at Menlo College in Atherton. Romina is a national level acrobatic gymnast, the 2012 level seven state vault champion and won the best delegate award at the 2013 World Affairs Conference.
Each year high schools are asked to nominate just one exceptional student who has demonstrated strong leadership abilities or potential. The seminar gives young leaders a chance to meet with respected leaders in business, nonprofits and government, pepper them with questions and discuss important issues ranging from the environment to the future of education.
