Andrea Howell and Kevin Michael Cooper were married Oct. 10, 2010 at Mt. Madonna County Park in Gilroy.

Andrea is the daughter of Richard and Therese Howell of Murphys, and Callie and Mark Curry of Morgan Hill. Kevin is son of Dale Cooper of Morgan Hill, and Debbie Cooper of Gilroy.

The newlyweds reside in Gilroy with their two sons, Ashton and Jacob.

Samantha Rose Garcia

Samantha Rose Garcia was born Sept. 23, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Los Banos to Sam and Tonya Garcia of Los Banos. She weighed 8 pounds.

HONORS

Kavi Duvvoori

Mount Madonna School is pleased to announce that sophomore Kavi Duvvoori of Gilroy has been named a Davidson Young Scholar by the Nevada-based Davidson Institute for profoundly gifted students. 

Duvvoori started attending MMS as a preschooler and is one of approximately 300 students from across the country accepted into the program this year and recognized by Davidson for their exceptional academic promise. 

“MMS has given me a rounded education,” comments Duvvoori, “that encourages enthusiasm in all subjects, even in areas that I otherwise wouldn’t have been exposed to, like performing arts, which has made me a confident public speaker. The teachers are all so dedicated that they have shown me the real excitement in their subjects, beyond the grades and worksheets.”

Melanie Delmue

Army Pvt. Melanie A. Delmue has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Dave Delmue of Morgan Hill and Jody Siderits of San Martin. Delmue is a 2010 graduate of Live Oak High School.

Emma Fladeboe

Mount Madonna School is pleased to announce that senior Emma Fladeboe has been named a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. Earning this distinction signifies that a student scored in the top 5 percent nationwide of the more than 1.5 million students who took the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Fladeboe, of Gilroy, started attending MMS as an 11th grade student and is one of about 34,000 high school seniors across the country commended for their exceptional academic promise.

CELEBRATION

George Azevedo

George Azevedo and his wife Genelle celebrated their 90th birthdays this year, as well as their 65th wedding anniversary in September. God saw fit to open Heaven’s door for George on Oct. 15.

A celebration of George’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Nov. 20 at Shadow Mountain Baptist Church, 17810 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill. All are welcome to come and bring their memories and antique cars.
