SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

Although the Anzar girls’ soccer team allowed its first goal in Coastal Athletic League play on Friday, it also managed to post another seven-spot on the opposition, and routed visiting York by a 7-1 margin in San Juan Bautista.

Jessica Stofer had a three-goal hat trick, while both Lauren Bellone and Brianna Miltimore added two goals apiece for the Hawks, who are now 5-0 in CAL play, 7-4-1 overall.

Furthermore, Anzar has outscored its five opponents by a 31-1 margin this season.

A year ago, the Hawks suffered a difficult defeat at the hands of York, which finished three games behind the San Juan Bautista high school in the win column. The 3-2 loss kept Anzar out of the postseason discussion.

“Last year was not that great for us,” Anzar head coach Carlos Flores said.

Thursday’s matchup against York was not only a win for Anzar, but it was a convincing one at that.

The Hawks led 6-0 at halftime.

Bellone assisted on a pair of goals, while Miltimore, Stofer, Hakima Hossainzadeh and Marissa Carapinha each set up a goal as well.

The Hawks are off until Thursday when they will host defending league champion Gonzales at 4 p.m.
