A day removed from playing to a scoreless tie against Soledad, the Anzar High girls soccer team posted a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over St. Francis CCC in Watsonville Saturday morning.

The non-conference matchup, like the one the day before against Soledad, saw both Anzar and St. Francis battle to a scoreless tie at halftime. But when the host Sharks swiped a one-goal lead just five minutes into the second half, the Hawks awoke to the tune of three unanswered goals.

Off an assist by Brianna Miltimore, Anzar’s Sydnee Masuen knotted the match at 1-all in the 55th minute on Saturday, while teammate Monica Medina added the eventual game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 70th minute to stake the Hawks to a 2-1 lead.

Just before the end of regulation, though, Anzar tacked on an insurance goal in the 78th minute when Miltimore pocketed her second assist of the game on a goal scored by Alex Flores.

The goal scored by Masuen, meanwhile, ended a scoring drought for the Hawks that lasted 275 minutes, dating back to their game against Notre Dame in the Watsonville Tournament.

With the win, the Hawks improved 2-2-1 on the season.

Anzar will return to the pitch Wednesday to take on Alisal in San Juan Bautista. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
