Sara Yamasaki scored once and assisted on two others as the San Benito Lady Balers handed visiting Alisal its first loss of the season on Wednesday with a comfortable 4-0 victory in Hollister.
Kelly Gottron, Karly Leon and Daniela Ocampo each added scores for San Benito, which improves to 2-0-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League, 4-3-2 overall.
Alisal, meanwhile, falls to 1-1-1 in the TCAL, 7-1-3 overall.
The Lady Balers got to work early on Alisal, depositing their first goal in the 7th minute. Switching fields from the right to the left, defender Marissa Adame passed to Hannah Cobb, who then found Gottron on the left for a breakaway goal.
“There was too much stuff going on the right side,” San Benito head coach Ben Alvarez said. “So we switched the game and it worked.”
Gottron’s goal was all San Benito would need, but the Lady Balers tacked on another before halftime, as well as two more in the final 40 minutes.
Yamasaki helped make it 2-0 when her shot on net in the 32nd minute was blocked by Alisal’s keeper, and Leon corraled the rebound for the goal to give San Benito a two-score cushion.
Yamasaki made it a three-goal game during the second half when her shot from 30 yards out found the back of the net. The goal, which was assisted by Kaitlyn Fontaine, came in the 60th minute.
“It was just a rocket,” Alvarez said.
The Lady Balers made it 4-0 in the 71st minute when Ocampo split the defenders off a Yamasaki pass and beat the goalie, supplying San Benito with back-to-back four-goal efforts.
Last Thursday, San Benito defeated Notre Dame by a 4-0 margin.
San Benito will visit North Salinas (0-1-1 TCAL, 4-4-2) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
