Wow, what a change of weather we had last week! I think fall has definitely arrived. The mornings are cold and was it ever wet out here last weekend. The wet weather put a damper on the San Benito County Fair Junior Rodeo last Saturday, but, mud and all, they got it done.

Congratulations go out to Tom and Shannon Cromer on the birth of their first baby last Thursday, Sept. 20. Chance Michael was one day off from his due date and he weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. Proud grandparents are Mike and Mary Ann Mallory of King City.

Congratulations also go out to Tammy Stoughton, the winner of the Destruction Derby in King City a few weeks ago. Tammy outlasted a whole field of men drivers, including her husband, Dad, brother and cousin! Way to go Tammy!

Birthday wishes go out to Bob Flores and Shane O’Connor who both celebrated birthdays last week.  Shane celebrated with a barbecue last Sunday along with a skeet shoot. Robert and Tressy Vanetti celebrated their second anniversary last week as well.

Cynnie O’Connor hosted the annual Bitterwater Tully School Pancake Breakfast last Friday at the school. It was another packed house for the event. Some of those stopping by for breakfast included:  Jim Smith, Johnny Joe Maggini, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Reb Monaco, Jo Ann Scattini, Lynette Hurley, Kuulei Flores, Robert Oswald and Ruth Records, Janet Oswald, CHP Officer Zolie Treiner and the Beaver Dam CDF crew. After breakfast, Roberta Oswald was assisted by some of the students with a flag dedication and flag raising of our new school flag.

A memorial service was held for Alma Carlsen last Saturday at the Carlsen Ranch. Despite the wet weather, a huge crowd gathered to honor Alma, and by mid-afternoon, the sun came out and stayed out. Many students from Bitterwater Tully attended the event as well as many community members, family and friends. Alma will be missed by many as she was such a great asset to the community and the school.

The San Benito County Fair Junior Rodeo was held last Saturday at Bolado Park, even though it was pouring down rain and ankle-deep mud. The kids didn’t seem to mind it as much as some of the parents! It didn’t look too promising first thing in the morning, but, by mid afternoon, it had cleared up and even got warm.

Suzy Caston, Chairwoman of the event would like to send a huge thank you to all those who volunteered to work, parents and contestants for making the day a huge success despite the weather conditions.

The fair officially opens on Friday, but many events will be taking place prior to that. You won’t want to miss the Professional Bull Riders event that takes place on Thursday evening in the arena. Tickets are selling fast so be sure to get yours in advance.  The ranch rodeo will take place on Saturday, followed by the Junior Livestock Auction in the afternoon. There will be something for everyone so be sure to come out to the San Benito County Fair this week.

Have a great week, good luck at the fair and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
