South County residents prepare for Salinas rodeo
Well, we’re at the halfway point through summer and we still
haven’t seen any real hot spells yet. Must be that

global warming.

It works for me, though. I’m actually enjoying the weather we’ve
had this year.
Belated get well wishes go out to Blair Strohn who had been
hospitalized for a few weeks up at Stanford. Blair was being
treated for pneumonia. She is now home and recovering well. Glad to
hear that, Blair. We were all thinking of you and wishing you
well!
While Blair was recovering from her illness, her brother Blane
was in Winnemuca, Nev. at the Silver State Invitational Rodeo.
Blane was in the team roping with partner Justin Strickland and in
the tie down roping. The boys did well there but more importantly,
they had a good time.

The Salinas Rodeo kicks off next week beginning on Thursday. Many South County folks will be spending some time up there taking in the action. The week of action begins with a PBR Challenger event that will take place on July 20 at the rodeo grounds. Many PBR riders will be on hand to compete as well as many local riders. South County favorite Brendon Clark will be competing as well as helping out junior bull riders Cash Robinson and Brody Sans. The boys will be riding junior bulls at the event along with a few other junior riders. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. so be sure to get there early to watch your local junior riders in action.

Good Luck to Paicines resident Alyssa Abercrombie on her quest to become the new Miss California Rodeo next week in Salinas. Alyssa represented the San Benito Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo in fine fashion and I know she would do the same for Salinas. Good Luck, Alyssa. We’re rooting for you!!!

Speaking of PBR action, the Hollister PBR is set to take place again this year on Sept. 3 at Bolado Park. Event organizers Alex and Laura Naccarato and Billy and Dana Aviles are busy getting ready for this fantastic event. For ticket information or sponsor opportunities, contact either Laura or Dana.

Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
