Well, it’s official. School is finally out in South County!  School ended last Friday, June 9 for Bitterwater Tully students, and on June 7 for Jefferson School students. King City High School students have just finished their last week as they got out on the 16th of June. Let summer begin!

Congratulations go out to Braden Donovan who celebrated his eighth grade graduation from Bitterwater Tully School last Friday evening. Before receiving his diploma, awards for academic skills were handed out to all K-8th grade students.  Appreciation gifts were also handed out to many community members who donate so much time to the school. Roberta Oswald received a gift for donating her time every Monday morning to read to students, and Johnny Joe Maggini received two awards, one for being the Lady Badgers No. 1 supporter, and for building and donating the beautiful trophy case for all the trophies the girls have accumulated over the years. The case is already two-thirds full so he may be building another one soon!

A big congratulations goes out to Bitterwater Alumni Juan Mendoza who received the honor of Athlete of the Year for the King City High Mustangs.  Juan will be graduating this week and heading off to UCLA to join his sister Karina in the fall. Also graduating this week will be Sami O’Connor and Johnny Nino. Congratulations to all graduates and good luck in the future.

Well, it’s official, Buddy’s team, the Reds, pulled off a must-win game last week to advance them into the Tournament of Champions for the major league division. It was a very exciting, close game. They ended up beating the A’s by a score of 3-2.  Congratulations to coaches Brent Green, Ted Umstead and Ralph Rianda for being such awesome coaches, and to the entire team on such a great season. Of course the first game will be the same day as the San Benito Saddle Horse Show, so, another year goes by without Buddy or I being able to enter! Oh well, there will be plenty of Saddle Horse Shows in the future, and Little League only lasts a few years. Good Luck Reds!

Brody and his teammates headed off to San Francisco to take in the Giants vs. Pirates game last Sunday for an end-of-year party. They had a great time; they got to see three home runs, one of them being a grand slam. Thanks to Coaches Jim Daw, Jerry Richardson and J.R. Stoughton for such a fun season for these kids.

The Salinas Valley Fair Ranch Rodeo was held last Sunday at the Rava Arena at the fairgrounds. Congratulations to Hec Hurley for winning the saddle for the All-around title. Others winning events and participating included Shane Higgins, Ross Ketchum, Jared Renz, Jessica, Sandy and Kelsey Silva, Avery Reagan, Carlos Castillo, Stacey Watson, Terri Andrade, Jeanie Coefield, Kanani Barbree, Kasey Hurley, Casey and Colleen Sabin, Andy and Mattie Barrington, Katie Harris, Mason Mallory, Twain Stockdale, Nessen Schmidt, Mike Garza, Earl Escobar, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini, J.W. Brewen and me, Todd and Sierra Jo.

Alethea Prewett will be the royalty representing the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo this year. Alethea claimed the title over Samantha Ceglia and Jenny Graves. It seems only fitting that Alethea win the title as she has been competing at the horse show since she was just four years old. Grandparents Ernie and Rose Prewett have just one more reason to be proud of Alethea. Congratulations Alethea!

Have a great week everyone, and, if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected].
