Happy belated Easter everyone, and happy end of tax season too!  I hope you all enjoyed the Easter holiday and were able to get your taxes in on time as well.

We had another round of wet weather last week (during spring break too, while the kids were all home, all day, in the rain …).  According to the weather channels, this week is supposed to heat up. With all the April showers we’ve had, we’re sure to have lots of May flowers this year.

Baseball season didn’t skip a beat during the spring break and the wet weather.  The King City High School Mustangs participated in a tournament down in Cambria last week. The boys lost their first game to Coast Union (Cambria) 1-0.  They came back to win their last two games to win first place in the tournament. Bitterwater Tully Alumni Shane O’Connor and Juan Mendoza played well again, as did freshman Rory Johnsen.

Rory has been called up to play Varsity for a few weeks while another player has been out on the injured list. Rory has been holding his own and doing very well on the varsity team. Just another reason for his cousins Buddy and Brody to idolize him even more! Way to go Rory!

Get well wishes go out to Nessen Schmidt who had a double knee replacement surgery last week in Stanford. He is doing well and on the road to recovery.  He will be home this week.

The annual Schmidt Family Easter Picnic was put on hold this year due to so many folks not being able to attend, but Vern and Jo Ann Scattini hosted a small Easter BBQ at their place instead. Some of those joining them for the day included Todd, Robin and Jack Scattini, Laurence and Donna Hansen, Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Jeff, Shari and Melissa Popnoe, the Brewen family, the Hurley family, the Johnsen family and the McFarland family.

We spent Easter Sunday at my parents’ house in San Juan Bautista, along with my two sisters and their families.

Laurence and Donna Hansen spent a few days last week meeting their new adopted grandchildren over in Fresno, then, celebrated another grandchild’s second birthday party in Lemoore on the way home.

Jeff, Shari and Melissa Popnoe arrived from Truckee last Saturday to spend a few days with Jeff and Jean Schmidt. Shari is still recovering from a broken leg that she got from a skiing accident back in late February.  She still can’t put any weight on the leg for at least another six weeks.  She is wheelchair bound but looks good and is recovering well. It was nice to see them get down here for a few days.

If your looking for something to do this weekend, the King City Riding Club will be hosting the annual Grady Lafferty Memorial Junior Rodeo on Saturday at the indoor Rava Arena at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. The day begins at 8 a.m. and will run all day. Be sure to stop by to cheer on your favorite cowboys and cowgirls.

Until next week, enjoy the weather, however it may be, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at we********@ao*.com.
