It was a busy Labor Day weekend for many South County folks. I hope you all had a safe and happy weekend. Birthdays were celebrated, the Hollister PBR took place and there were rodeos and barrel races all taking place.

Taylor Jo Hurley celebrated her 15th birthday on Labor Day. Her wish for her birthday was to attend and participate at the annual Labor Day Bridgeport Calf Branding. Her wish came true as she, her mom and dad and her best friend Mikael Bernadette spent the weekend in Bridgeport roping. Taylor was in the mixed branding four different times with her mom Kasey as her partner. She also participated on a team with Doad and Ashley Hext, and Jeff Cabral and Casey Sabin. She had a great weekend as her team with her mom, Jeff and Casey ended up second in the mixed out of 46 other teams. She earned a nice check for her efforts and barely missed out on first place by just a couple of seconds. Sounds like some good roping to me! Congratulations on a great weekend Taylor, and happy birthday, too!

Many South County ladies spent the holiday weekend in Ceres at a big barrel racing finals event. Some of those attending included Cynthia Fancher, Colleen Sabin, Paty Raine, Jenel Flook and Tona Adrade. According to Vicki Sabin, the event was a huge success and the ladies all had a great weekend. Congratulations to all those who won money too!

The Hollister PBR took place over the weekend and it was a huge success as well. Congratulations to event producers Billy and Dana Aviles and Alex and Laura Naccarrato on another great event. The grandstands were overflowing with fans who were there to root on their favorite bull riders. Our favorite, Brendon Clark, had two awesome rides in the long go but was unable to make the eight-second rides in the short go. It doesn’t matter, though. He’s still our favorite! Congratulations to Chualar’s Gerardo Ruiz for making the whistle and winning the junior bull riding. Gerardo is in eighth grade and is another talented up and coming local rider. Everyone I spoke to at the event all were having a great time and agreed that it was another successful event. Congratulations, guys, and thanks for the great evening of entertainment.

The 19th Hole Restaurant is hosting a ranch rodeo this weekend at the Fox Creek Ranch in Hollister. Proceeds from the event will be passed on to the Tres Pinos School. What a great fundraiser for a school! Good luck to all those participating there this weekend.

The NFL season officially kicked off on Thursday night, hooray! Actually I don’t know if I’m going to be happy or sad since my fantasy team is not so good this year! Time will tell. I’m just happy that it’s finally football season!

Have a great weekend and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me with any news you’d like to share.
