It was a fair to remember
Another San Benito County Fair has come and gone and it was
certainly another very successful fair. The weather was a little
unpredictable, but at least it was comfortable.

Congratulations go out to D.J. Parker for raising the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion lambs at this year’s fair. D.J. must know his lambs pretty well as he obviously does a nice job raising them. Several Bitterwater 4-H Club members participated in the fair last week as well. Raising and showing beef at the fair included Tel Jones, Wacey Barrington and Emily Brewen while swine participants included Taylor Jo Hurley, Wacey Barrington, Kassie O’Connor, Jensen McFarland and Sierra Jo and Todd Sans, Jr. Thanks to Sierra Jo and Blane Strohn for helping Todd show his pigs as he is still hobbling around on crutches with his broken ankle.
One of my favorite things about the San Benito Fair is the daily pancake breakfast that is put on by the 4-H Clubs every day of the fair. Each San Benito club is responsible for helping one day during the fair to make a delicious breakfast each morning that is provided for all participants during the fair. It is a great way to ensure that the kids get at least one decent meal each day during the fair. Many thanks to the San Benito County 4-H for providing this great service every year. It is very much appreciated by all exhibitors and parents alike.
I had to make my usual stop at the Republican Booth during the fair to pick up my McCain/Palin yard signs. The Republican booth was the happening place to be as they were out of all their NOBAMA bumper stickers every time I stopped by. There was a lot of talk about the McCain/Palin yard signs that have been constantly getting stolen in Hollister, and I noticed too that almost every one in King City has been vandalized in people’s front yards. Funny how I have never noticed any Obama signs vandalized anywhere. I wonder what that says about the differences between the two parties, hmm, just a little food for thought.
The 19th Hole was the place to be again last Saturday night. I hope they stay that busy every weekend and not just during big events at the fairgrounds. We need another great steak house in the area. Gene and Shana Strohn had a great dinner in there last Saturday night and they said the place was packed. Shana said Gene had a little excitement after dinner as they were walking to their car and another carload of girls pulled up alongside them and started whistling at Gene. Guess you still have it Gene!
Anniversary wishes go out to J.W. and Candace Brewen who celebrated their anniversary last week during the fair and birthday wishes go out to Gregg Johnsen and Doug Stephens who both celebrate this week.
Vern and Jo Ann Scattini just returned home from a trip to Paradise Valley, Nev. with George and Sandy Rose. While there, they visited the JS Bar that was once owned by Jerry and Phyllis Sans. They all had a great trip, had good weather and saw a lot of new country.
King City High School celebrates homecoming this week. Festivities will begin with the parade on Broadway Friday afternoon, followed by the football games at the high school. Good Luck KCHS!
Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
