With its three pools, water slides and water play area for
children, the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center is expected to draw
upwards of 75,000 patrons this summer looking for a good way to
cool off and beat the heat.

With its three pools, water slides and water play area for children, the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center is expected to draw upwards of 75,000 patrons this summer looking for a good way to cool off and beat the heat.
And from now through Labor Day the center will be open everyday for business.
“Normally we have 15 fulltime employees. During the summer months we have 140 that work here,” said the center’s Recreation Supervisor Angela Papp. “There’s just a lot more things that need to be done this time of year.”
In addition to recreational swimming, the facility, which opened in 2004 at a cost of roughly $14 million, offers swim lessons – group and private – for everyone as well as a number of programs for youth, including swim teams and water polo.
Programs and other classes for water fitness are also offered as well as masters lap classes.
“If it’s really hot, we do get pretty busy here,” said Ticketing Supervisor Kim Hill. “It really depends on the weather.”
According to Hill, most people come for recreational swimming, but the facility’s two water slides are also a major attraction.
The water slides are open to riders that are at least 48 inches in height. One of the slides is enclosed and another is open.
“I wouldn’t say they are as radical as the ones at Raging Waters but they are pretty nice,” said Hill. “The people really enjoy them.”
Parents will find comfort in knowing that the operation is dedicated first and foremost to safety, according to Papp.
“It’s a fun, safe enjoyable experience for the whole family,” she said. “And it’s one of the safest facilities around. We have a very professional staff and highly trained lifeguards that go through extreme training. We don’t use (less intensive) Red Cross training because we are geared more towards a water park. We having diving boards here and water slides so we need that type of training.”
The center also has a concession area and a retail shop that sells everything from sunscreen and sandals to swimsuits and bathing caps.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Morgan Hill resident Chris Klein, who has taken his family to the facility. “The water slides are really neat and my son loves the water play area.”
The park is open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from Friday through Sunday from 11:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Admission is $7 for adult residents of Morgan Hill and $9 for non-residents. The cost for children (2-9) and seniors (55-plus) is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents.
There are also special rates for groups and parties.
