The 26th Annual Mission 10 Race will be held on Saturday, Jan.
24, on Second Street’s Mission Plaza in San Juan Bautista. There
will be a 10-mile race at 10 a.m., a five-kilometer race at 10:15
a.m., and the Elliott Swank Memorial One-Mile Kids’ Fun Run at 9
a.m.
Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $25. The
Kids’ Fun Run is $5, or $12 for three or more kids in the same

Sharks, YMCA street hockey
The YMCA of San Benito County will be starting the Sharks and Parks Youth Hockey League on Jan. 31 through the NHL Street Program, with games expected to be held on the basketball courts at Veterans Memorial Park in Hollister.
The street hockey program, which will be open for boys and girls in grades 6 though 8, is to encourage a love for the game and companionship between players through the teaching of skills, development of positive attitudes about fair play, teamwork and reinforcement of the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
A meet and greet session will open the season on Jan. 31, with the first game slated for Feb. 14. The season is scheduled to run through April 4. Practice times and locations will be determined by each coach. A skills assessment will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Veterans Memorial Park. Registration fees are $90 from Dec. 1 through Jan. 24, while an individual program membership is $30 and a family program membership is $55. Heat registrations
Hollister Heat Youth Softball is currently accepting registrations for the spring 2009 season. Try-outs will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for ages 8-10 and 12 to 1:30 p.m. for ages 11-14 at the Heat Field located at Veterans Memorial Park. Chaos softball tryouts
The Gilroy Chaos will hold tryouts for its 14-and-under fastpitch softball team on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Goldsmith Seeds Field in Gilroy, located at 2280 Hecker Pass Highway.
