Tennis: Seniors give Balers an advantage
Behind a team of juniors and no seniors, the San Benito girls tennis team surprised the Tri-County Athletic League and finished in second place last fall. A year later, in the Gabilan Division of the new Monterey Bay League, expectations are sky high for the Balers.

Less than a year ago, Cathy Frusetta and Berenice Bribiesca were only hoping to contribute to the San Benito tennis team in 2011. For Bribiesca, now a senior, it was her first year playing tennis. Frusetta, meanwhile, was trying to gain experience in exhibition matches.

Football: Anzar can’t keep up with Pinewood
One play encapsulated the Anzar High football team’s 60-42 loss to visiting Pinewood on Friday in an 8-man Mission Trail League game. Having just cut its deficit to 38-34 with 4 minutes, 4 seconds left in the third quarter, the Hawks (3-5 overall, 1-4 in league) looked like they were going to get the ball back with Pinewood facing a fourth-and-25 from its own 18-yard line.
