The San Benito Stage Company will hold its first Children’s Summer Theater Camp this month for children ages 6 to 12.

The week-long camp will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23-27 at Sacred Heart Parish School.

Campers will be involved in various workshops throughout the week, learning dance movements, vocal music, improvisation, how to audition, meditation and visualization acting.

The workshop also offers an introduction to costuming, props and make-up and team building.

With a bachelor’s of art in education, founder and director Kristy Burchard promises it will be fun and exciting.

Because of Burchard’s love children’s theatre, she said it made sense from her to start a theatre camp.

Burchard said she hoped the inaugural camp is just the beginning and that it becomes a success so it continues each summer.

“Part of the San Benito Stage Company’s mission is to educate people, to give back to the community, and this is a perfect way to do that,” Burchard said.

Cost for the theater camp is $120 for the week. However, registration is limited to 100 and based on a first-come-first serve basis.

“Right now, we have 75 who have signed up,” Burchard said. “We thought we should keep it small enough to handle the first year so we could do everything just right.”

Registration forms are available online at www.sanbenitostage.org or call Kristy Burchard at 636-6810.
