State Senator Jeff Denham (R-Merced) will be visiting San Benito
County Monday, part of a series of visits to his district while the
Senate is in fall recess.
Hollister – State Senator Jeff Denham (R-Merced) will be visiting San Benito County Monday, part of a series of visits to his district while the Senate is in fall recess.
“He really wanted to focus on San Benito County,” said Nick Rappley, the Senator’s press contact. “So he’s going to devote an entire day to the community.”
Denham has a particular interest in San Benito County, says Rappley, as he was recently appointed Chairman of the Senate Agricultural Committee. Visiting Hollister and San Juan will give the Senator an opportunity to hear first hand the concerns of local farmers and act upon them when the Senate resumes in January.
Senator Denham plans to start the day with a noon speech to the Hollister Rotary at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. After that, Denham will visit Tres Pinos school to distribute ID kits for the kindergarten class and coloring books about the importance of safety.
“We have a little assembly planned,” said principal Luciano Medeiros. “When the senator told us he wanted to see a kindergarten classroom, I convinced him to talk to all our students about his job. We’ve been talking about the senator’s visit in our classroom bulletins, and the kids are excited.”
After his date with the students, Senator Denham will be taking a tour of the Mission San Juan Bautista at 3:30pm, accompanied by representatives from the state parks agency.
“The senator has heard a lot about restoring these buildings,” said Rappley. “And the best thing he can do is go see for himself, and then decide the best way to go forward from there.”
Denham will conclude his day in San Benito County with a Town Hall meeting at San Juan’s City Hall, beginning at 6:30pm.
“The senator is most looking forward to the Town Hall meeting,” said Rappley. “He wants to gather information from residents about what issues are important to them. Engaging the citizenry of his district is extremely important to him. He knows that the people put him in power, and listening to their needs is a top priority. San Benito County is a great part of the district, and the senator is pleased to be able to spend some time there.”
After seeing San Benito County, Senator Denham plans to spend time in Salinas the week after, and in Modesto, his home city.
