Bre Sullivan’s grand slam highlighted a 10-run first inning, Page Miguel pitched a no-hitter, and the San Benito Lady ‘Balers easily defeated visiting Alisal Thursday 13-0 in five innings.
The game was called due to the 10-run rule, but despite the shortened affair, Miguel still managed to strike out 10 Trojans. San Benito improves to 9-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League.
Coupled with Tuesday’s 7-0 victory against Everett Alvarez, the Lady ‘Balers took care of the two teams that stand toward the bottom of the TCAL standings this week. On Tuesday, though, San Benito will visit Salinas to take on Notre Dame, which currently occupies second place with a 8-1 record.
“We’re going into an intense game where everything counts,” manager Scott Smith said. “It’s hard. It’s hard to turn it off and on like that.
“This is a unique group. It’s one of the few groups that I’ve coached that can turn it off and on. I think we’ll be ready.”
San Benito was certainly ready for Alisal Thursday, posting a 10-spot on the winless Trojans in the opening inning, and taking advantage of frequent walks.
On the defensive end, the Lady ‘Balers can still boast their scoreless streak, as no TCAL team has scored a run on San Benito this season.
Previously on April 3, San Benito defeated a visiting Notre Dame squad 4-0. Said Smith in preparation to Tuesday’s contest, “I’m hoping we can get back and ready to go Friday and Monday.”
The two teams will meet up in Salinas Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
