There appears to be confusion in the reporting of the 2006 Summer Program at San Benito High School . I would like to offer clarification of the program and student admittance to summer school.
Summer School at SBHS is a six-week intensive instructional program of four hours per day. Students may take a full year course in this fast paced summer session. The courses offered are replicas of courses offered during the regular school year. These courses provide curricula that satisfy San Benito High School graduation requirements, college preparation, and the University of California entrance requirements. The quality of the course work taught by credentialed teachers during the summer program should mirror the quality of the course work provided during the school year.
San Benito High School will be offering a full summer program for students who are behind in credit toward graduation, scored below proficient on the California Content Standards tests in core academic areas, or failed or are in danger of failing the California High School Exit Exam. During the 2005 summer program, 1,245 students were served in these areas. San Benito High School will again provide all necessary programs to meet students’ needs for skill building, leading toward graduation. There is no limit on the number of students who may take courses to build skills that may be currently lacking.
The enrichment courses are the only courses that are limited, based on funding from the State of California. San Benito High School will be offering 250 seats in the enrichment program, fully understanding that the State of California will only fund the District for 155 seats.
