Hollister – The San Benito County Board of Supervisors today will discuss controversial plans to build a hotel in Tres Pinos.

As currently planned, the hotel would be located at the northwest corner of Highway 25 and Southwest Road, and would include 44 rooms, a banquet hall, a meeting room, a private pool and 65 parking spaces. Many locals are worried that the project will ruin the quiet neighborhood and town, while others have pointed to the proposal as a potential boost to the county economy.

The Planning Commission voted 3-2 on Aug. 15 to recommend a change from residential to commercial zoning, which the hotel needs to move forward. If the supervisors approve the zone change, the Planning Commission would still need to take a final vote on the commercial district review.

The hearing will begin at 1:30pm in the County Administration Building, located at 481 Fourth St. in Hollister.
