The San Benito County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved contracts with two county unions Tuesday.

Around 100 workers demonstrated outside the County Administration Building in September, but discussions between the county and Service Employees International Union Local 521, which represents most county employees, were largely resolved shortly afterward.

The “memorandum of understanding” approved Tuesday formalizes that agreement.

Union negotiator Lori Woodle has called the agreement “a good contract.”

Among the changes made formal Tuesday were an across-the-board 3 percent raise and additional 2.5 percent raises at the completion of employees’ 20th, 25th and 30th years. In addition, the county agreed to prepare a survey of salaries in surrounding areas before the contract expires in 2010, which could give union negotiators more ammunition when asking for higher salaries.

The supervisors also approved a new three-year agreement with the Management Employees Group. MEG represents mid-level managers such as the county’s principal planner, public health nursing director and the assistants to most department heads.
