Let’s face it, the wind blows hard in San Benito County, especially during the spring and summer months.
It does not matter if the wind is in our face, blowing sideways or at our backs, it affects all of our golf shots.
The successful golfers never fight the winds. Here are some tips on how to play the wind.
The number one rule in wind play is to swing easy. We must maintain our balance and tempo on windy days.
We keep our balance and tempo by swinging easy and using a wider stance.
If you are hitting into the wind, use more club. Don’t chop down on the ball to hit it lower. This only adds extra spin to the ball, causing it to lift even higher.
If the wind is to your back, use less club. Tee off with your fairway wood. It will give you more height and probably more distance. If you are playing into a crosswind, let the wind move the ball toward your target.
No matter what direction of the wind, use a wider stance, less swing and good balance. For more help with your swing, see your local LPGA or PGA professional.
