It sure feels like fall these days. It’s been cool and crisp in the morning and evenings, but nice and warm during the day. Tarantulas are out and about this time of year too. Fall is definitely right around the corner.

If you’re a football fan, there sure were a lot of upsets last weekend in the NFL. We play in a weekly pool and sure missed a lot of picks. And how about those Broncos? If you’re a Raider fan, you were probably pretty unhappy with that game! I thought for sure the Broncos had lost to the dreaded Raiders, but, thanks to Coach Shanahan’s strategy, we were able to pull off the win in the end … Go Broncos!!

Many birthday wishes went out to friends and family last week. My Mom and both of my sisters celebrate in September so my Dad hosted a birthday barbecue for them at my parent’s house last Saturday in San Juan Bautista. Mattie Barrington celebrated her birthday on the 15th as well.

Many South County residents headed over to Carmel Valley last weekend for the Carmel Valley Rancher’s Days. Congratulations to Emily Brewen for winning her first buckle in the Ranchers Choice event with her Dad, J.W. J.W. also won the sorting event with Nessen Schmidt and Hec Hurley, and the calf branding with Nessen, Hec and Casey Sabin. J.W. tied for the All-Around saddle but lost it in a coin toss to Carmel Valley resident Bert Ferrasci. Also participating in the weekend events were Taylor Jo Hurley, Sarah Brewen and Stacey Schmidt. Sounds like everyone did well and had a great time.

A memorial service will be held for Alma Carlsen this weekend at the Carlsen Ranch in Bitterwater. It begins at noon on Saturday and all family and friends of Alma’s are invited to attend.

The annual Pancake Breakfast at Bitterwater Tully School will take place this Friday, Sept. 21 from 7-8 a.m. All community members are invited to stop by to have breakfast.

The San Benito County Fair Junior Rodeo takes place this Saturday, Sept. 22, at Bolado Park in Hollister. The event begins at 8 a.m. and is sure to last all day long. The fair opens next week.

Congratulations goes out again to the King City Little League 12-year-old All-Star team. They were honored last week by receiving a proclamation from King City Mayor Jeff Perreira at the City Council meeting last Tuesday evening. It was just another great experience for the boys to add to their already long list of accomplishments. Thank you King City City Council for recognizing the boys for a job well done.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
