The San Benito girls tennis team continued with its difficult non-conference slate on Wednesday at Carmel, where the host Padres defeated the Haybalers by a 5-2 margin.

San Benito is now 1-3 overall.

The Balers’ two wins came at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Singles player Audrey Marshall topped Carmel’s Julia Modorsky 7-5, 6-4, while San Benito’s top doubles team in Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo remained undefeated on the season with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Lily Bovenzy and Sara Anderson.

Carmel was victorious in the remaining five matches, however.

The Padres’ No. 1 singles player in Kaylan Griffiths defeated Hayley Barker 6-2, 6-1, while M.K. Waite upended Kristina Slavich at the No. 2 spot, 2-6, 6-4 and 10-8 in the third-set tiebreaker.

Carmel’s Helaine Ridilla also defeated Kelsey Slavich 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles position.

In doubles, Padres Lee Biltetoe and Lyndsay McMillan beat Olivia Diaz and Alex Garcia 6-1, 6-2, while Juliana Burns and Brittney File defeated San Benito’s Stephanie Slavin and Katherine Starks-Jones 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 doubles position.

San Benito will now open Tri-County Athletic League play on Tuesday at home against Alisal. Match time is 4 p.m. at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
