first match of the season on Tuesday by a 6-1 margin to top-dog
Salinas at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.

After opening Tri-County Athletic League play with three straight wins, four overall, the San Benito Haybalers dropped their first match of the season on Tuesday by a 6-1 margin to top-dog Salinas at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister.

The Cowboys swept the singles portion of the match, while San Benito’s top doubles team in Michael Jensen and Conner Bray were able to earn the lone victory for the Balers (3-1 TCAL, 4-1).

Jensen and Bray defeated Jeff Guidoffi and Jeff Reeves 6-1, 6-0 in their match. Otherwise, Salinas controlled the tennis bout from start to finish.

No. 2 doubles Alex Wolf and Tyler Bachelder topped Balers Jacob Panger and Eric Johnson 6-1, 6-1, while Salinas’ Michael Liu and Aaron Moss defeated Travis Mills and Richard Oliverira 6-0, 6-0.

In singles, the Cowboys tightened their stranglehold on San Benito with four victories, all coming in straight sets.

Top singles player Farren Casad defeated Kyle Skinner 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Cowboy Remy Artevia downed Jacob Garcia 6-0, 6-1; No. 3 Sebastian Pagno upended San Benito’s Austin Pan 6-0, 6-0; and Chris Barbeau provided the singles sweep when he defeated Baler Geoff Muzik 6-1, 6-1.

The Balers will look to rebound on Thursday when they will travel to Gilroy to face the Mustangs. Match time is 4 p.m.
