As the deadline for the 2005-2006 San Benito County 4-H All Star candidate’s contracts comes due, I must once again express my appreciation to the community for “saving” 4-H.

The All-Star is a high rank in the nationwide 4-H rankings. You start with Bronze, Silver and Gold (like the Olympic medals) then you can progress to Emerald Star, All-Star, and Ambassador for the state.

As my fellow candidates and I are finishing up the last portion of our requirements, I think back on the past 10 months and all that we have experienced. I not only feel a sense of accomplishment for my own project, but having attended all my fellow candidates’ field days, I am truly enriched.

I have learned so much from such a diverse range of projects. From setting up computer Web sites to making healthy snacks with “smoothies,” this All Star program has opened my eyes to even more opportunities that 4-H has to offer.

One of the requirements of our All Star project is to “educate” the community about 4-H. I went to after school programs and spoke to the children about all that 4-H has to offer. It made me feel really good to see the excitement in their eyes. I would like to thank all the 4-H supporters out there, once again, who stood by 4-H and enabled me to learn even more about this great program. Thank you also for allowing me to “spread the word” and hopefully let 4-H grow even stronger in our community.

Danielle Escover, Union 4-H
