The Cooler: Agree with district on bilingual school expansion?

Panelists answered the following: Do you like the school district’s decision to expand the Hollister Dual Language Academy to Kindergarten through eighth grade at Gabilan Hills?
Mary Zanger: Yes. Remembering that Spanish was the first language of California, dual language proficiency becomes a valuable skill required by many jobs. Expanding dual language skills through eighth grade ensures the continuation of language learning begun earlier in the K through 4th grades. Parental enthusiasm, cooperation and support ensures the success of the program giving the lucky children a head start on further education and jobs. 
Richard Herrera: I applaud their decision to expand HDLA. I have two daughters in the program and my son will begin kindergarten in August. My daughters are proficient in English and Spanish because of the staff, teachers and volunteers. I believe we need to consider a K-12 HDLA program.
Cesar Flores: Yes! The needs of the community should always be a priority. 
Nants Foley: I like it. I am a fan of K through 8 schools. I am also impressed with the HDLA program.
Ruth Erickson: If the program is so popular, then they should expand there especially since the school district already has the land to add another building. Children need to start learning another language long before high school and, in this world, knowing at least one more language is a plus.
