Editor,
I can’t believe Christmas is here again. It’s my favorite season. It’s time to think about the less fortunate. Time to forget and be forgotten.
In our life, each one is blessed with only so many seasons. It’s foolish to not take advantage of every one. Remember, he knows when we are asleep and when we are awake. No matter the age, no one can guarantee that we will be here next year. This is a reason to enjoy one more. No matter if you are a doctor, a lawyer, a rancher, a peasant, a judge, or a billionaire, we only have the opportunity for so many years. And the most fascinating thing is that after we pass, our bodies descend. No one can say, “I’m unreachable.”
I grew up in a poor country where I experienced so much misery and saw people so hungry they were going from door to door begging for something to eat, for something to kill their hunger. That made me angry with those I felt were responsible. These are scars you can’t get over. This made me believe there must be a better way.
I have been working hard to prove that there is a better way. Many times I have been critical against the ones in power that I feel could have done a better job to protect the others. Being involved in politics, sometimes you wonder if the ones who follow you are supporting you or chasing you. I believe anyone who gets involved is working in good faith to be a success in what they believe. Being right or wrong, there will always be the ones who agreed and the ones who don’t. That’s where friction starts. Sometimes with two good friends, a difference of opinion can turn a relationship bad. In my 45 years living here, I have been trying to be productive with good intentions to see things change for the better. I didn’t accomplish much, but at least I have tried. It’s impossible to please everyone though my intentions have been good.
Somebody I don’t know had my name in the paper saying that I might run in the next election for Supervisor of District 4. Thanks for the surprise. I gave some thought to what it would be like getting into the race. It didn’t take me long to feel that, at almost 78, there are better things to get myself involved with like family, our health and our business. I’m not interested in making more enemies.
It’s time to think about my soul, which is a gift from God. We received them clean, without defects, and it is our obligation, when they depart from our bodies, to return them undamaged. One day we have to answer to God and in his presence there are no excuses. That’s the judge you can’t fool. He knows anytime if you are awake or asleep. Anybody without a soul is worthless. In that case, after we pass we are all worth the same. Take care of yourself for as long as you have the time, for the end might be near.
Wishing all of you out there a very merry Christmas and this always goes to the ones who disagreed I’m sure there will be some. Like always this is only my opinion. Happy holidays,
Amadeu and Mary Lima, Hollister
