Editor,

I am a parent of two children who have been in several productions of Hollister’s San Benito Stage Company, and because of an upcoming scenario, I feel the need to clarify something for the Hollister community.

At the beginning of this year, The San Benito Stage Company had publicly announced their plans to do Grease in the fall of this year.

Interestingly, I now am seeing signs that Hollister Recreation’s Rainbow Theater is currently auditioning for their production of Grease, which will be performed this summer.

In conversations with many people over the last several years, I have found that many people in the community get the two theater companies confused – sometimes even thinking that there is only one. Now that Rainbow Theater is also doing Grease, I’m afraid it will only add to the confusion.

Rainbow Theater has typically been children’s productions only, but will now be performing Grease during the summer, which now will include a varied age for the cast – children through adults. The San Benito Stage Company is still moving forward with their original plans to perform Grease, which will be performed in the fall, with strictly a teen cast. The San Benito Stage Company will also be performing their big summer show this summer at the high school, South Pacific, and will include a 28-piece orchestra.

I feel that Hollister is lucky to have two local theater companies (most small communities don’t even have one). I just want to make everyone aware that these two companies (and productions) are not one and the same. I think everyone should support their local theater by attending both productions of Grease, and see for themselves that each one will offer a distinctly different and unique audience experience.
