The San Benito High varsity cheer team finished its season in the Central Coast Section Division 1 semifinal boys basketball game in Santa Clara on Wednesday. The Haybalers lost 54-48 to Piedmont Hills.

The varsity team took third among the 18 teams, the freshman team took second and the JV team finished seventh.

There were teams from all over the western United States.

“Everyone had a great time,” said coach Elva Ayala. “Everyone performed awesome. It was very intense. They have worked hard. It has been a long season.”

The Baler cheerleaders start training in the summer and begin their season with a cheering camp.

This year, the team had a lot of work with the success of the football and basketball teams.

The team members are Lisa Farotto, Justine Skull, Jennifer Obertello, Alesa Vargas, Nichole Rezente, Apolonia Pacheco, Erica Rodriquez, Danielle DeMateo, Tara Wynn, Megan Cirelli, Marissa Asp, Leah Padilla and Stephanie Camarillo.
