Hollister’s prowess in Little League is proving strong once again as many of the Hollister teams moved on in District 9’s Major Tournament of Champions.

The games started on Saturday, June 23 with 26 teams entered in the single-elimination tournament. Teams included in the tournament were from Gonzalez, Greenfield, Soledad, King City, Monterey, Salinas, and Hollister.

Hollister brought their four best teams into the TOC, two from the Major American and two from the Major National. The A’s and Rangers represented the American league and the Rockies and Nationals represented the National league.

At press time three of the four teams had moved into the semi-final round that took place Wednesday night. Hollister’s Rockies went up against another team from Hollister, the Rangers. Hollister’s other team, the A’s, played against the team from Ferrasci Little League that knocked out the Hollister Nationals team in the quarterfinals. If the A’s beat Ferrasci on Wednesday, then on Thursday night the battle for the championship will have been between two teams from Hollister for the second consecutive year.

The Rangers eased their way into the semi-finals with 13-0, 15-0, and 8-6 wins over teams from Gonzalez, National, and Continental Little League respectively.

The Rockies chose to take a bye in the first round and only played two games to advance into the semis. The Rockies had a bit of trouble knocking off a team from North County Little League but eventually got the win 6-2. They followed that victory with another one on Tuesday night over King City with a score of 8-3.

The Rockies and Rangers played each other on Wednesday night for a chance to be in the finals.

The A’s defeated teams from Soledad, Continental, and Hartnell with scores of 6-3, 7-2, and 6-2 and faced a team from Ferrasci on Wednesday night for the second and final spot in the TOC finals.

Ferrasci squeaked into the semi-final round, edging out a 2-0 win over King City in the first round, a 5-4 win over Gonzalez, and a devastating 5-4 win over Hollister’s Nationals.

The Nationals had beaten Atlantic 6-2 and North County 4-1 before being knocked out by Ferrasci in the third round.

The TOC final took place Thursday night at 5:30 at the American Little League field in Salinas, after press time. Hopefully there was a sense of Hollister invasion in Salinas on Thursday.

“Our teams are doing very well again this year representing Hollister,” Little League President Mitch Burley said on Tuesday.
