HOLLISTER – The 2013 San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo is this weekend at the Bolado Park Fairgrounds, with events scheduled Friday through Sunday. Friday’s rodeo starts at 7 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday shows at 1:30 p.m.
Kids Rule Theatre Camp finale
HOLLISTER – Kids Rule Theater Camp will present an outdoor finale June 28, at 6:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart School. The finale will feature students ages 6-13 who will be singing, dancing and acting in the show that follows a week of camp, sponsored by the San Benito Stage Company. The Kids Rule Rockband will perform prior to the show at 6 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. Details: Call 831-801-1203.
Encore Theater show
HOLLISTER – Students who participated in the Encore Theater workshop this week will perform “The Best Haunted House Ever,” a dramatic comedy by 10-14-year-old actors June 29, at 7 p.m., at the LDS Church on Cienega Road. The actors auditioned for the roles on Monday and perform six days later. The performance is free and open to the public. Details: Call 831-801-1203.
Hollister Art League shares 50 years with community
HOLLISTER – The Hollister Art League is celebrating 50 years of art in the community with a display at the San Benito County Free Library, on Fifth Street, that includes a photograph of the group’s founder Fay Kennedy. It also includes small paintings, cards and calendars. The Hollister Art League’s Spring Show will also be on display at Mars Hill Coffeehouse, 610 San Benito St., through June. It features watercolor, acrylic and photographs. A one-person show by Carlos Munoz is also on display at Mars Hill featuring paintings of movie stars and skeletons.
Zazen meditation starts at Japanese Temple
HOLLISTER – The Hollister Japanese Temple Garden will start offering weekly zazen meditation classes on the forms, spirit and practice of Soto Zen with Robert Reese. It includes 40 minutes of sitting meditation, ten minutes of walking meditation, followed by dharma talk and discussion. The sessions are Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at 920 Riverside Road, in Hollister. Reese has been practicing in the zen lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi for 25 years.
