The Anzar girls soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to King City on Tuesday in its first game since returning from the break.

“We are starting to get it together again,” said coach Jesse Martinez. “It was a really good game defensively. We just couldn’t get anything done offensively.”

The Mustangs scored the only goal with about 10 seconds left in the first half on a breakaway up the middle. Hawk goalie Sarah Wisotsky had about 30 saves in the game.

“They were getting some shots from far away, and they were real easy saves to make,” Martinez said. “With her (Wisotsky’s) leadership, she got the defense where it needed to be.”

Center back Sarah Finstad and seniors center defender Briana D’Agostini and center midfielder Rachel Martinez had strong games defensively to lead the Hawks.

Anzar (2-6, 2-4 TCAL) will be at York on Thursday and then at home against Pacific Grove Saturday.
