David Kret speeds down a straight away in the 400 meter race, which he won Thursday in Salinas.

San Benito’s David Kret will be the only Baler to compete in multiple events during the Central Coast Section championship on Friday at Gilroy High.

Kret qualified in the 400-meter and 200-meter races Saturday becoming the only Baler to make the cut in more than one event.

Kret started the day finishing in fifth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.24. In the 200-meter dash, Kret finished in third with a time of 22.19.

The top 8 finishers in each event advanced to Friday’s finals. Kret’s teammate Taylor Lothman missed out in the 400-meter race by two spots and a second.

Vanessa Estrada, who only ran in the 3,200 meter race, also qualified for San Benito, finishing in third place with a time of 10:48.95. The time was Estrada’s career-best finish. Her time was three seconds slower than Scotts Valley’s Vanessa Fraser.

Krystal Alnas also advanced to the final by finishing in third place during the discus with a distance of 122-04 — nearly 10 feet shorter than her career-best 131-04 thrown in Salinas earlier this year. However, Alnas also couldn’t meet her school-record shot put toss of 39-4.5, and failed to qualify.

Alnas finished in 10th place with a toss of 36-9.5.

The Balers also qualified in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:25.97. They earned the last qualifying time, finishing in ninth place.

The CCS track final begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Gilroy High.
