The San Benito boys’ distance medley finished in ninth place with a time of 10:47.26 at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, besting 30 other teams that were in attendance at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

San Benito’s time placed them second in their heat behind Placer (10:40.99), which finished in eighth place overall. The top seven teams, including Castro Valley, Bellarmine, Miramonte, Palo Alto, Rocklin, Fairfield and Mountain View, all competed in the first heat.

Castro Valley was first overall with a time of 10:26.89.

Despite the ninth-place finish, San Benito’s time on Friday was an improvement of approximately 12 seconds for the Baler foursome. On March 13, the boys’ distance medley recorded a 10:59.25 at the Wildcat Relays in Watsonville.

The medley relay was the lone event for San Benito on Friday. On Saturday, the Balers will return to Cobb Track and Angell Field in Palo Alto for the second day of the Stanford Invitational.

Both Frankie Martinez (discus) and Sophie Coelho (pole vault) will begin at 9 a.m. Later in the day, the boys’ 4×800 relay team will compete at 1:04 p.m., while the boys’ 4×400 relay team will compete at 4:52 p.m.
