Twin Oaks Hollister residents and invited guests will gather Aug. 22 for a day that combines remembrance, community and celebration, beginning with a walk supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and ending with an Aloha-themed celebration of The Cannery Club’s fourth anniversary.
The day will begin at 9am with a Campus Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the San Benito County Alzheimer’s Association Flower Ceremony at The Cannery Club.
During the flower ceremony, participants will carry flowers representing their personal connections to Alzheimer’s disease. The ceremony will honor those living with the disease, remember loved ones who have died and recognize caregivers, advocates and others affected by Alzheimer’s.
Following the walk, residents will gather at 11am for The Cannery Club’s fourth-anniversary Aloha Celebration.
The festivities will include a luau-style grazing buffet, tropical refreshments, live Hawaiian music and a hula performance by local group Hā‘a Hula.

“Four years ago, The Cannery Club opened its doors and quickly became the heart of the Twin Oaks community,” said Marty Miller, founder of Twin Oaks Hollister. “This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate not only the wonderful memories created here, but also the caring and connection that make Twin Oaks such a special place to call home.”
Miller said beginning the anniversary celebration by supporting the fight against Alzheimer’s makes the day particularly meaningful.
The event reflects the emphasis Twin Oaks places on an active and socially connected lifestyle. The gated 55-plus community offers resident clubs, fitness and enrichment classes, organized activities and special events designed to encourage friendship, lifelong learning, wellness and engagement.
The Cannery Club serves as the community’s social and recreational hub, providing residents with a place to gather, take classes and participate in activities.
Twin Oaks was recently honored as one of the nation’s top three Senior Living Communities in the Gold Nugget Awards, presented in association with the Leading Builders of America.
“Community is about more than the homes we live in,” Miller said. “It is about showing up for one another, celebrating together and creating meaningful experiences. This day brings all of those things together.”
Twin Oaks officials thanked the Alzheimer’s Association for partnering with the community to bring the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and Flower Honor Ceremony to the event. The community also recognized Alexis Winder, a financial adviser with Edward Jones, for supporting Walk participants.
The Aug. 22 events are open to Twin Oaks residents and invited guests, and advance registration is required. Those interested in attending can request an invitation through the Twin Oaks Hollister website.
