As San Benito County prepares for its primary election June 8, Hollister’s city council races will round into shape over the summer.
Hollister’s November general election will fill two seats on the city council, City Clerk Geri Johnson said.
Vice Mayor Pauline Valdivia’s long-held spot will be open. She has been the District 3 representative since 1998, the longest term out of all council members. That district largely includes the southwest portion of Hollister.
Also, the District 2 seat will be open. Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez has been a member of the city council since 2006. That district covers the west end of the city.
To apply for a spot on the city’s ballot, applications will become available on July 12, Johnson said. Afterward, candidates have until Aug. 6 to turn in the forms.
But if the incumbent doesn’t apply for reelection, applicants will have five more days, Johnson said.
No primary election is held for city council candidates because that is stipulated in the California Election Code, Johnson said.
