Photo: Women’s Club celebrates 100 years

The Women’s Club of Hollister, founded Dec. 6, 1913, celebrated its centennial birthday with a party theme of  “100 Years of Ice Cream Socials”.  Members were encouraged to wear a costume reflecting any decade. The room was filled with balloons, club memorabilia and pieces from the 1913 period, while everyone was treated to ice cream sundaes. Two bands played music from each decade and a good time was had by all. Both the Hollister City Council and San Benito County Board of Supervisors presented the members with proclamations recognizing the 100th birthday.

Marty: A system to redistribute public wealth

In our modern, mobile society, many of our traditional political and economic borders, such as county lines, have little or no function. Make this holiday the season of giving

With mass media warning us that we have a mere four weeks (less one day) between Thanksgiving and Christmas, our “Holiday Season” is on the skimpy side this year. This had me worried.

Rash transfers from goats to humans

Q: Our 14-year-old daughter developed a rash on her hand and arm. We took her to two different dermatologists before we finally got a diagnosis. She has contagious ecthyma, something I never heard of before. Her dermatologist asked if we have any sheep or goats. We have three new pet goats. He told us that this is a contagious skin disease she caught from those goats. But we checked, and none of the "kids" have any skin condition. Is this a common problem you see very often? Where does it come from? Our daughter is horrified what her friends will think so she wears long sleeves everyday to school.
