The 2013 Hollister Little League and San Benito Babe Ruth All-Star teams were announced on both leagues’ websites Saturday. Little League will be represented by eight teams in four age divisions. The Babe Ruth team announced three of its rosters, which are posted at the Babe Ruth Field at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Hollister power outage affecting about 7,500 customers Friday morning was caused by a bird that made contact with a power line, according to a spokeswoman for Pacific Gas & Electric.

Morgan Hill Cellars is the oldest winery in our region and celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The winery was founded in 1913 by an Italian immigrant named Camillo Colombano who planted Barbera root stock brought over from Italy. From 1945 to 2006, the Pedrizzetti family owned and operated the winery. Changing hands for the third time in 2006, it is now owned by Mike and Maryclaire Sampognaro.

More than a decade after Irenne Zwierlein – a Native American tribal member who previously inked plans with a major developer to build on roughly 6,000 acres of pristine property just south of Gilroy known as Sargent Ranch – forged documents in an attempt to prove herself the rightful leader of the local Amah Mutsun Tribal Band of Ohlone/Costanoan Indians, the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs made a move last week that left her rivals “absolutely blindsided.”

I am always in awe of people who speak more than one language. Frankly, mastering English was a bit of a stretch for me (and yes, using the word “master” to describe my language skills is also a bit of a stretch).
