NHL: Five-goal first period lifts Sharks past Lightning
AN JOSE – A five-goal outburst in the first period was enough offense to lift the San Jose Sharks past the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-2 Wednesday night at sold-out HP Pavilion. The victory, pushed the Sharks atop the Pacific Division with 39 points in 32 games. Dallas has 39 points in 33 games. Phoenix is third with 37 points. Los Angeles, San Jose’s opponent Friday, holds down fourth with 34.
Soccer: Four Gav players earn all-conference honors
The Gavilan College men's soccer season ended Nov. 11, but the signs left behind tell of a turnaround campaign that included the most wins in program history. Led by first-year head coach Justin Johnson, the Rams finished 2011 with an 11-8-1 record - 7-7 in the Coast Conference - and received four selections to the postseason all-conference list.
