Goodbye 2014! Come on in, 2015
Is it just me or does it feel like only yesterday we welcomed 2014 and sang auld lang syne into that New Year? Maybe it is me, but as I get older, time seems to pass more quickly. Workdays become weekends and then I’m back at the office before I really even have time to catch my breath.
New church proclaims ‘a better way’
No one probably knows how many religious groups are located in South Valley. One reason for this is new congregations seem to be constantly forming: population growth and a large percentage of religiously unaffiliated residents make this a good area for providing new opportunities to learn about and connect with God.
Take the high road at Calero County Park
On my previous visits to Calero County Park, I have always walked the lower portions of the park nearer the reservoir. This terrain bobs and rolls over round hills dotted with coast live oaks, valley oaks and bay trees. As you move away from the lake toward the park's southern boundary, the Bald Peaks ridge leaps 1,000 feet above the reservoir. From that high perch, the full sweep of the Bay Area spreads out beneath you.
Gualda at full throttle
Only time will tell if Tony Gualda has what it takes to become a professional race car driver.
In 2015, I will not …
It's the New Year and we all know what that means—resolutions. I hate resolutions. I really do. I mean, what was so wrong with me last year that this year I have to remake myself? Seriously? Was I so awful? Wait. You probably shouldn't answer that. Let's just move on to my 2015 New Year's Resolutions that I may actually keep:
JUCO Basketball: Rams capitalize on big second half to top Lassen
GILROY—With one steal, Gavilan’s Brittany Valdez changed the entire game.

Brand new year, same old challenges?
Here we are, first week of January, clouds of holiday tissue finally swept from beneath our feet. A Christmas ornament, dropping from a dehydrated branch, plops on the rug, rolls hollowly onto the hearth. New Year's resolutions tap us on the shoulder, reminding us of our newly-minted vows. Get organized. Drop those Christmas pounds. Bring the budget back into check.
Reservoirs, fishermen reeling from drought’s impact
Rains that hit Hollister in mid-December are drops in the right direction but haven't lifted the state out of a three-year drought or refilled San Benito County's three reservoirs.
Madrid: A stunning city
Majestically sitting 2,135 feet above the sea level of the Mediterranean, Madrid gloriously holds the record of the highest capital in Europe. This stunningly beautiful city greets the traveler like a long-lost relative. Claiming “the next best place after Madrid is heaven,” the city has a way of really making the foreigner feel at home.
