Aphid Bath in Downtown Hollister
Volunteers gave downtown trees a soapy shower this weekend in an effort to decrease the number of aphids that have infested trees. Sharlene Van Rooy, pictured above, with the Hollister Downtown Association led efforts to eliminate both the tiny sap-sucking insects, as well as the sugary substance that has dripped from trees onto the sidewalk as a result of their presence. Van Rooy, along with four other volunteers, used soapy water to wash around 35 trees along two blocks in downtown.
Power-Packed Opening
The Hollister Honda Powerhouse store, at 411 San Felipe Road, held a grand opening Saturday. Top photo, motorcycle stuntman Jason Pullen performs for the crowd. Above, a stunt rider does a burnout. The business, fueled by a $1.5 million Redevelopment Agency loan, held a raffle at Saturday's event to benefit Emmaus House. There were also children's games and prizes, and a Calstar helicopter was on display.
