Marty: Protesters proclaim, I’m here; therefore, you owe me
Of all the shortcomings that exist among America’s entitlement radicals, the most infuriating is that they never say thanks. They threw those words in the trash bin when they decided that they were entitled to everything, even if they did not earn it. Psychologically, it takes a bit of humility to be grateful, but it is humanizing. When I get something or ask for something I usually try to say thanks. But I’m only human, so I occasionally forget. The radicals don’t forget – they just reject the concept.
An idea turned upside-down on its legs
When Hollister resident Greg Reed first came up with his big idea, “Hootie and the Blowfish” only wanted to be with you and “Friends” wasn’t yet a television phenomenon.
Creating lifelong memories with a special wine
Like the sound of a hit song from summers past or the scent of burning wood from a campfire, the thought of a special wine can evoke memories of the exact moment in time it was enjoyed. Years ago, my brother poured me a taste of Rosenblum Zinfandel - San Francisco label. The wine was such a revelation that memories of the day are still seared in my mind - from the rich drink of black cherry and ripe plum, to the lighting of the early evening sky, to where I was sitting and whom I was with.

Annual Cleaning of the Car produces many treasures
Welcome to 2014. To celebrate the New Year, I decided to do my annual Cleaning of the Car. OK, it's not really annual, because it's happened once in eight years. So it's like octo-annual. Yeah. So, you know, it wasn't always like this. I once drove a nice car. It wasn't mommy-like at all. I kept it clean and shiny and French-fry free. It didn't smell like feet. It didn't have mud stained carpet or dog slobbered windows.

Here’s to your hands
A round of applause for your hands! They're the only tool I know that can do everything from typing a resume to steering a car to catching a fastball.
Financial resolutions for the New Year
About 45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, according to a survey from the University of Scranton. But the same survey shows that only 8 percent of us actually keep our resolutions. Perhaps this low success rate isn’t such a tragedy when our resolutions involve things like losing a little weight or learning a foreign language. But when we make financial resolutions - resolutions that, if achieved, could significantly help us in our pursuit of our important long-term goals - it’s clearly worthwhile to make every effort to follow through.
