Council members Monday unanimously approved a $57,500 allocation toward the Hollister Downtown Association for economic development activities.
The council also delayed a separate resolution to appropriate an amount annually for the support of such activities of the HDA, an independent nonprofit. Members plan to pick up the talks on a permanent appropriation next Monday at a special meeting.
The allocation goes along with $66,300 given by the council to the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce in the past year for tourism efforts, according to figures provided by finance official Brett Miller.
The city previously appropriated funds annually to the HDA when its redevelopment agency still functioned before the state dissolved RDAs four years ago. The city at the time proposed to have $140,000 in “RDA Successor Agency” funds—designed to manage remaining, essential activities of RDAs as they dwindle down—to go toward the HDA and Economic Development Corp. But the state denied that idea.
