Hollister council members Monday approved using federal block grant funds to replace or fix sidewalks in lower-income areas of the city.
Council members approved the item on the consent agenda of Monday’s meeting.
On the agenda, council members weighed approving plans and calling for sealed bids on the sidewalk replacement program, expected to cost about $295,000, according to the agenda.
The city expects to use Community Development Block Grant funds on the project, so the money must go toward areas with families below the median income, according to the city.
According to the agenda report, the affected areas are generally north of San Juan Hollister Road, west of Line Street between Powell and San Benito streets, and between Prune Street and Prospect Avenue north of Tres Pinos Road.
The sidewalks in those areas have been uplifted, cracked or pose a pedestrian safety issue, according to the report. The project would include replacing corner curb ramps as well.
